The tomato chutney known to me since the day my friend shared me this recipe, was a sweet one. I had been working on only the sweeter part of it; until I came to know about the sour and tangy tomato chutney. I bet you will fall in love with this.

Tomato Chutney

Tasty and Sour Tangy, you simply love it !!


Tomato Chutney is the common recipe. It is most favorable yummy side dish and loved by everyone. Very easy to prepare. It mostly serves with the gravies Mutton or Chicken along with rice or chapati. So enjoy your Tomato Chutney with any of your desired curries.


Recipe – Tomato Chutney

Serves: 6

5 minutes for preparation, 20 minutes for cooking


  • 300 grams tomatoes
  • 1/2 lemon
  • 5 garlic flakes
  • 1/2 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/2tsp red chilli powder
  • 14 tsp turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp mustard powder
  • 1/2 tsp roasted cumin powder
  • 1/4 tsp garam masala powder
  • 1 tbsp curry leaves
  • 1/2 tbsp coriander leaves
  • 4 ground red chillies
  • 2 green chillies
  • 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/4 tsp onions seeds
  • 1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds
  • 1/4 tsp coriander seeds
  • 1tbsp onions
  • Salt to taste
  • 2-3 tbsp oil
  • 2-3 big red chilli
  • 2 pinch red food color


  1. Wash and cut tomatoes into small cubes and keep aside.
  2. Chop coriander leaves and curry leaves. Squeeze the lemon juice.
  3. Chop the onions and keep aside.
  4. Heat oil in a wok on low flame. Splutter cumin seeds, mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, onions seeds, garlic flakes, curry leaves, ground red chillies and onions slices. Fry a little.
  5. After 2 minutes add ginger garlic paste, turmeric, red chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala powder, and salt.
  6. Add chopped tomatoes then fry till the tomatoes get soft and leaves from the pan.
  7. Cook  for 10 minutes.
  8. Lastly add lemon juice, 2 pinch red color and coriander leaves cook for 2 more minutes then remove from fire.

You are now ready to serve the mouth watering Tomato Chutney with chapati or rice…!!
